cut-adidas

For over a year and a half, sportswear giant Adidas refused to pay $1.8 million in legally owed severance to 2,800 workers who were laid off a supplier factory in Indonesia. Adidas’s refusal to pay severance was a violation of NYU’s code of conduct for licensees, which mandated that companies licensed to produce university apparel follow all labor and environmental laws in countries where their goods are produced. In April 2013, after 17 schools across the country cut their Adidas contracts and campaigns waged on at schools like NYU to do the same, Adidas, runnin’ scared, agreed to pay the legally owed severance!

This campaign was nationally coordinated through United Students Against Sweatshops.
